Cycles ruleYes- I have done it again… signed up for another mad challenge which I am now panicking about!

This one? It’s the Manchester to Blackpool cycle ride… just 60 miles… and I am not a regular bike rider- until a few weeks ago I didn’t have a bike!!

It just seemed a good idea when my sister said that she was thinking of getting a team together to do it in aid of the school where she works- St Bernadettes in Blackpool. The trouble is- she and my brother-in-law are ultra keen and ultra fit cyclists who think nothing of going out and bashing out 40- 60 miles on the hilly roads of the Forest of Bowland every weekend. It will be just like a little training ride for her!

My Mum gave me her ancient mountain bike a few weeks ago so I have been thrashing out some miles on it- a lot of circuits of Holme Pierrepont so I can enjoy that nice headwind coming back down the lake, and I am off work this week so am considering taking the bike to Rutland Water today for the last push.

Oh yeah… did I mention the ride is on Sunday?!

I am not doing it on Mum’s bike- I will be borrowing my sister’s hybrid as her family own about 20 bikes between them (not kidding!) So I am hoping that 60 miles on a hybrid will seem effortless compared to 25- 30 miles thrashed out on an old, heavy mountain bike with slightly flat tyres!

I think a certain part of my anatomy is going to suffer…
